"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-247

Here's Tortoise's view about halfway to work this morning.  It was a 2.99 mile walk with 187 feet climbed in 52:15 minutes.  At 70 degrees, it was much nicer than the walk home from work last night! Tortoise rating was 4.9; calories burned were 465.  For a map and a thought from Neal A. Maxwell, heard while on the walk, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

705.12 miles walked, which is 70.44% of my 2014 goal.
222:51:14 hours walked, which is 71.20% of my 2014 goal
33,281 total feet climbed
112,620 calories burned
67.73% of the year has passed

I've walked 21 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on August 11, and overall have walked on 200 of the 212 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.34% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

One of the fine thoughts Tortoise heard on this morning's walk, this one by Neal A. Maxwell ...

"If certain mortal experiences were cut short, it would be like pulling up a flower to see how the roots are doing. Patient endurance is to be distinguished from merely being “acted upon.” If, for instance, we are always taking our temperature to see if we are happy, we will not be. If we are constantly comparing to see if things are fair, we are not only being unrealistic, we are being unfair to ourselves."

  1. What a powerhouse Elder Maxwell was! And what a great reminder that "patient endurance" is not merely sitting back and waiting for something to end or pass from us, but rather an opportunity for us to exercise our agency and be proactive in learning and growing from that experience is meant to teach us.

Tortoise continues to up his game with not only ever more consistent walks, but powerful thoughts that stoked and rekindle the flames of faith! Appreciate it Awes!!

  2. An hour a day listening to classic conference talks, while getting quality exercise, followed by choosing with nugget to feature here, has been quite satisfying these past few weeks. Very happy to share it with you and that you find value in it!
