"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-253

Tortoise got great exercise climbing 430 feet on a segment of his 3.26 mile walk tonight, as shown in the video slide show above.  Total time was 1:17:27 hours on this 1.9 tortoise rated path, which got an extra tortoise for the abundance of loose rocks throughout the walk.  557 calories were burned on this attempt to find a more gradual way down from the Overlook on the LaVerkin Scenic Loop trail Tortoise dreams of getting his city to create.  His initial reaction is that the search continues.  This path was still quite steep and rocky, making it easy to fall.

2014 Stats:

722.62 miles walked, which is 72.19% of my 2014 goal.
228:34:27 hours walked, which is 73.03% of my 2014 goal
34,505 total feet climbed
115,431 calories burned
69.33% of the year has passed

I've walked 26 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on August 11, and overall have walked on 205 of the 217 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.47% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

Barbara Winder gave one of the most gracious goodbye talks I've ever heard, here's a thought I particularly enjoyed:

"The harvest of happy memories and dear friendships is perhaps the sweetest of all the blessings"

Barbara is 83 years old as I write this, and still finding a variety of ways to offer meaningful service.  Here is a fascinating piece on her tenure as General Relief Society President, and how she was specifically called by President Hinckley to take the Relief Society in a new and powerful direction: http://www.ldswomenofgod.com/?p=1841

The tortoise is smiling!
