La Verkin. A beautiful sight as Tortoise neared home tonight after work. He started his walk by going to the bank, then retraced his steps and continued home along the most direct path following Hurricane's 600 North. Totals were 3.62 miles with 184 feet climbed in 1:09:50 hours. Tortoise rating was 5.1 and 568 calories were burned. Please click below for a map and a James Faust thought based on "One of the advantages of having lived a long time is that you can often remember when you had it worse."
2014 Stats:

229:44:17 hours walked, which is 73.40% of my 2014 goal
34,689 total feet climbed
115,999 calories burned
69.65% of the year has passed
69.65% of the year has passed
I've walked 27 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on August 11, and overall have walked on 206 of the 218 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.50% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.
This evening's thought from James Faust:
"One of the evils of our time is taking for granted so many of the things we enjoy
"One of the advantages of having lived a long time is that you can often remember when you had it worse. I am grateful to have lived long enough to have known some of the blessings of adversity. My memory goes back to the Great Depression, when we had certain values burned into our souls. One of these values was gratitude for that which we had because we had so little. The Great Depression in the United States in the early thirties was a terrible schoolmaster. We had to learn provident living in order to survive. Rather than create in us a spirit of envy or anger for what we did not have, it developed in many a spirit of gratitude for the meager, simple things with which we were blessed, like hot, homemade bread and oatmeal cereal and many other things."
