"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-259

Tonight's picture goes along with today's thought rather than today's walk ... but there's a map along with that thought when you click below to continue reading.  In passing, that walk was 2.89 miles with 52 feet climbed in 48:37 minutes.  Tortoise rating was 5.7; calories burned were 460.

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

739.22 miles walked, which is 73.85% of my 2014 goal.
233:36:49 hours walked, which is 74.64% of my 2014 goal
35,395 total feet climbed
118,072 calories burned
70.93% of the year has passed

I've walked 31 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on August 11, and overall have walked on 210 of the 222 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.59% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

And now for today's really fine thought from Marvin Ashton ...

Over the years I have experienced some uncomfortable times in commercial aircrafts while traveling in turbulent skies. Oftentimes, heavy winds, storms, angry clouds, down drafts, etc., have caused bumpy and anxious moments, particularly when it was time to land. A seasoned pilot gave me comfort once after such an experience when he talked about a landing pattern—the ordered flight path of an aircraft about to touch down. Precise instruments, experience, and trust guide the planes to safety en route and through proper landing and takeoff. “We can’t control the weather or elements, but we can stay within the pattern for safety,” he emphasized.
One day I was admiring a beautiful hand-finished quilt made by a skilled seamstress. As we visited together, I learned that she had made many quilts over the years and was well known for her excellent handiwork. To my query, “Do you ever make one of these quilts without a pattern?” she said, “How would I know how it might turn out if I didn’t have a pattern to follow?”
How can we even guess how our lives will turn out if we don’t choose to follow the right pattern?
