"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Challenge.  You want to get your daily walk in.  You might get a phone call during that hour and need to stop the walk, get in the car, and head out within ten minutes.  How do you plan your route?Of course there are lots of possibilities, Tortoise would love to have you comment to this post and share how you might do it.  If you'd like to know what he did, including a map, and today's walking thought by Jack Goaslind (Yagottawanna), please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

As illustrated in the map, Tortoise started at Crosby Family Confluence Park, and walked ten minutes out and back in three different directions.  That way the farthest he would ever be from his car was a ten minute walk, and most of the time less.  The numbers in the map above are in kilometers, turns out that's about exactly how far I went in each direction in the 10 minutes.

Overall, the walk was 3.76 miles with 81 feet climbed in 1:00:16 hours.  Tortoise rating was 5.9 and calories burned were 628.

2014 Stats:

783.20 miles walked, which is 78.24% of my 2014 goal.
247:00:06 hours walked, which is 78.91% of my 2014 goal
36,970 total feet climbed
125,104 calories burned
75.72% of the year has passed
I've walked 11 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 224 of the 237 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.51% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Yagottawanna!

"How many of you have heard an inspiring thought, hymn, or story, and then had a desire to go do something good? This is not unusual; it is a healthy, spiritual feeling that is essential to our progress. But how often have you followed through on those feelings? "
