"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-275

This evening's walk was the classic La Verkin loop, with one added twist you will see on the map, that made it just a little further at 3.83 miles.  Tortoise completed this in 1:08:57 hours, climbing 140 feet along the way and burning 596 calories on this path tortoise rated 5.4.  For a map and today's walking message by Joseph B. 2014 Stats:

779.44 miles walked, which is 77.87% of my 2014 goal.
245:59:50 hours walked, which is 78.59% of my 2014 goal
36,889 total feet climbed
124,476 calories burned
75.40% of the year has passed
I've walked 10 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 223 of the 236 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.49% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

And now for today's walking message by Joseph B. Worthlin,

"While we yearn for peace, we live in world burdened with hunger, pain, anguish, loneliness, sickness, and sorrow.

"The value of peace within our hearts cannot be measured.

"Even those incarcerated for lengthy periods of time as war prisoners can be at peace in their own  minds. Many of them have learned from their captors that they cannot deprive them of freedom to   think, even when the most harsh limitations are imposed.

"Despite dismal conditions in the world and the personal challenges that come into every life, peace   within can be reality. We can be calm and serene regardless of the swirling turmoil all about us.  Attaining harmony within ourselves depends upon our relationship with our Savior and Redeemer,  Jesus Christand our willingness to emulate him by living the principles he has given us. He has  extended to us an invitation: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and will give  you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find  rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28–30.)

"The phrase “Peace, be still” (Mark 4:39), that the Savior uttered when he calmed the storm-tossed sea, can have the same calming influence upon us when we are buffeted by life’s storms."
