"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-274

It was a two walk day for Tortoise today.  He had a little time after work and before dinner and evening appointments, so he headed to the Sullivan Virgin River Soccer Park (where they now have a sign showing where three beautiful soccer fields will be constructed, so progress is being made) to see how far the Virgin River Trail goes ...

The answer is in the picture above.  About three quarters of a mile of freshly paved trail upstream from the soccer park, a beautiful wood bridge is being constructed.  More trail can be seen beyond the bridge, which will be exciting to go walk once the construction is done ... probably any day now as they were putting the finishing touches on the bridge today.

Cheerio!

Tortoise walked around the fishing pond and gazebo at the park, partly to bask in the
beauty a moment longer, partly to get the walk up to his two mile minimum just in
case this turned out to be the only walk of the day.

This first walk was 2.09 miles, with 34 feet climbed, and was completed in 32:25 minutes.  Tortoise rating was 5.9 and 361 calories were burned along the way.

Tortoise went on a second walk after his evening appointments in Toquerville to get up to the three and a quarter mile daily average needed to accomplish his yearly goal.  This one was 1.36 miles, with 141 feet climbed, done in 29:54 minutes.  Tortoise rating was 4.1, which burned 224 calories.

There are several homes under construction in Toquerville at the moment.
I'm sure the new residents of this one will love the mature trees in front!

I love discovering new parks for the little ones to play at

It's a pretty, peaceful valley!
2014 Stats:

775.61 miles walked, which is 77.48% of my 2014 goal.
244:50:53 hours walked, which is 78.23% of my 2014 goal
36,749 total feet climbed
123,880 calories burned
75.08% of the year has passed
I've walked 9 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 222 of the 235 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.47% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

Today's walking thought comes from Rulon Craven, who gave a heartfelt message at the April 1991 General Conference in which he was called to be a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy after having served 13 1/2 years as Secretary to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  He related some special experiences he had during those years, and also this message:

"My brothers and sisters, I share these personal experiences with you because I was there. I have a humble desire to strengthen your faith in the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve, whom we sustain as prophets, seers, and revelators.
"These men, from my close observation, live close to the Lord. I have witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit touch their hearts and minds and give expression to their words. I have marveled at the unity of purpose of the First Presidency and the Twelve in serving the Lord. Christ and his prophets are one. I continually observed the love and sustaining power extended by his two counselors and the Twelve to our prophet leader, President Ezra Taft Benson. My witness from personal observation is that you can have unwavering faith in the united counsel of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve. They will lead you in the path of righteousness, happiness, and inner peace."
