"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-310

Mile 888.  After a nice visit with Jacob this evening at the Dolores Dore Eccles Fine Arts Center, Tortoise walked 2.09 miles in a loop on and around the Dixie State University, in 40:24 minutes. There were 103 feet climbed in 1.04 miles along the way, giving that portion a 5.3 tortoise rating.  The rest of the path was flat or downhill.  Lou burned 308 calories doing this.

Please click below for a map, more pictures, and today's walking thought by Gordon B. Hinckley ...

Cheerio!

A look back at the Eccles Fine Arts Building as the walk begins

Two miles later Lou ended up across the parking lot from the
fine arts building by this sign welcoming you to campus

2014 Stats:

888.32 miles walked, which is 88.74% of my 2014 goal.
280:05:48 hours walked, which is 89.49% of my 2014 goal
43,747 total feet climbed
141,392 calories burned
84.98% of the year has passed

I've walked 40 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 253 of the 266 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 95.11% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.

And now for more of today's walking thought, originally presented in October 1992:

"I hope, my brethren, that perhaps this tremendous building in which we meet, now used for 125 years by the Latter-day Saints as our Tabernacle, will remind each of us of the strength we must nurture within ourselves while living in these mortal personal tabernacles which are the gift and creation of God.
"Brethren, be strong in your testimony of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the chief cornerstone of this great work. Of His divinity and reality I bear solemn witness. He is the Lamb without blemish who was offered for the sins of the world. Through His pain and because of His suffering I find reconciliation and eternal life. He is my Teacher, my Exemplar, my Friend, and my Savior whom I love and worship as the Redeemer of the world."

  2. Totally agree with Rachel here, way awes picture of you and Jacob both! Really loved the message from Pres. Hinckley you share here as well as it seems to be a theme as of late. We had Ward Conference yesterday, and the Stake President took Moroni 10:32 (also the mutual theme this year) and really hit it hard coordinating his talk, the Sunday School lesson and then his message during third hour as well. The winds of turmoil, temptation and simply mortality will continue to strengthen, our we built strong enough to withstand them? Love!!

  4. Glad you both like the picture! Fun part about the thought, is that this comes from the October 1992 Priesthood session. I actually thought as I walked and listened to it that it was the first one of those we went to in La Verkin ... and that we have been going to Priesthood sessions together for something like 25 years.

And now this theme is coming up regularly. Conference is timeless. :-)
