"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-13

Mile 35.  A minimum two mile walk down the street from my office as back as quickly as possible to get back to work.  It was one of those days.  But it was a beautiful day, as demonstrated above in a picture that has nothing to do with the walk, but I couldn't resist taking when I was home for a moment at lunch time.  The picture below shows the latest on the big Paparazzi building across the street as I began my walk ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.04 miles.  A total of 29 feet were climbed in 33:30 minutes.  Average uphill tortoise rating was 5.8, with 311 calories burned along the way.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

35.73 miles walked, which is 3.57% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 41.36 year-to-date miles.
10:25:15 hours walked, which is 3.33% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,376 total feet climbed, compared with 2,112 feet on this day in 2014.
5,398 calories burned
3.51% of the year has passed

I've walked 19 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 309 of the 324 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.37% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1994:

"On the other hand, the giant redwood trees that grow in northern California also have a very shallow root system. But when they are surrounded by other redwood trees, the strongest, fiercest wind cannot blow them over. The roots of the giant redwood trees intertwine and strengthen each other. When a storm comes, they actually hold each other up."
