"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-12

Mile 33.  A race to beat the setting sun after running some late afternoon errands in St. George.  Today's walk was a loop starting from the Waterfront Drive trailhead, heading down the Virgin River Trail just far enough past the Middleton Wash Trail so that the loop would be 3 miles plus a little extra.  From that turnaround point, Tortoise headed back to the Middleton Wash Trail, which he took as far as Riverside Drive.  Lou then walked along Riverside Drive until he reached Waterfront Drive to complete the loop.

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.22 miles.  A total of 103 feet were climbed in 59:50 minutes.  Average uphill tortoise rating was 5.6, with 471 calories burned along the way.

My walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

33.69 miles walked, which is 3.36% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 37.93 year-to-date miles.
9:51:45 hours walked, which is 3.15% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
1,347 total feet climbed, compared with 2,027 feet on this day in 2014.
5,087 calories burned
3.19% of the year has passed

I've walked 18 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on December 22, and overall have walked on 308 of the 323 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.36% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1994:

"The mortal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ was comparatively brief.  He lived only 33 years, His ministry was only 3 years.  But in those 3 years He taught the human family everything necessary to receive all of blessings our Father in Heaven has in store for His children.  He concluded His mortal ministry with the most compassionate and significant service in the history of the world: the Atonement."
