"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-149

Mile 418.  Tortoise previously walked The Strand in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, then discovered it was part of the Marvin Braude Trail that follows the coastline as far north as Santa Monica, so he started making his way that direction.   Today he was closer to Torrance, so it was a good day to find the beginning point of the trail adjacent to Miramar Park, pictured above with the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the background.  From there, Lou walked through the Redondo Beach Pier up to the starting point of The Strand before returning.

Cheerio!

That was a big group, wearing what looks like haz-mat gear
to pick up trash at the beach

Do these next few pictures look familiar to any of you who
participated in "Life's a Beach"?

Walkers to the left, cyclists to the right.  But walk those bikes.
Looks like people are going wherever they like ...

Creative way to continue a bike path through a pier filled with
shops and restaurants.  Paint lanes in the parking structure
so cyclists can go right on through.  Nice.

Only problem with this plan is when Tortoise got to the point where
he should have rejoined the bike path, there was no sign saying that.

So he got to take a magical mystery tour within one
in order to get back on track.  Lou had fun.

The next section is adjacent to a city street, but with
it's own separate lanes.  Greatly appreciated.

Leaving the road to join

The Strand in Hermosa Beach.  Tortoise's sign to turnaround for today.

Tortoise completed today's 6.44 mile walk in 1:59:07 hours.  Tortoise rating was 6.6, based on 146 feet climbed in the 3.22 mile uphill portion (average elevation 47). However, this walk earned a Benjamin Category Override to 5.0, because of its length over five miles.  This one was also over 10k in length.  950 calories were burned along the way.

Here is a map of today's route:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

418.75 miles walked, which is 41.79% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 418.93 year-to-date miles.

126:06:50 hours walked, which is 40.29% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

20,846 total feet climbed, compared with 19,403 feet on this day in 2014.

62,658 calories burned

40.89% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 16 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 119 of the 128 non-Sundays in 2015, a 92.97% consistency rating, the same as after 127 non-Sundays in 2014.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1999:

"The Bible witnesses of Jesus Christ by prophecies of His coming, by accounts of His ministry, and by the testimonies of those who carried His message to the world. The Book of Mormon has the same content: witnesses preceding, during, and following the ministry of the Messiah. Appropriately, it is now titled “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.”

"One of Martin Harris’s greatest contributions to the Church, for which he should be honored for all time, was his financing the publication of the Book of Mormon."
