"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-150

Mile 420.  Tortoise got to an appointment in Santa Fe Springs a little early, so he snuck in most of the day's walk then.  Then on his way home Lou exercised extra resistance, stopping at the Wendy's on Roy Rogers Drive in Victorville where he could get a grilled chicken sandwich and substitute chili for the fries, rather than eating the quite delicious offerings at the nearby In-N-Out.  This after filling up for gas at the Costco for the low, low price (by California standards) of $3.499 and finishing up the rest of his walk in their parking lot.

Cheerio!

Tortoise completed today's 2.18 mile walks in 40:27 minutes.  Tortoise ratings were 6.9 and 5.7, with 320 calories burned along the way.

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

420.93 miles walked, which is 42.01% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 418.93 year-to-date miles.

126:47:17 hours walked, which is 40.71% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

20,921 total feet climbed, compared with 19,403 feet on this day in 2014.

62,978 calories burned

41.21% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 17 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 120 of the 129 non-Sundays in 2015, a 93.02% consistency rating, compared with 119 after 129 non-Sundays in 2014 (which was a 92.25% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

"When I was a young university student, one of my classmates urgently pleaded with a group of us—his Latter-day Saint friends—to donate blood for his mother, who was bleeding profusely. We went directly to the hospital to have our blood typed and tested. I’ll never forget our shock when told that one of the prospective donors was unfit because of a positive blood test for a venereal disease. That infected blood was his own! Fortunately, his mother survived, but I’ll never forget his lingering sorrow. He bore the burden of knowing that his personal immorality had disqualified him from giving needed aid to his mother, and he had added to her grief. I learned a great lesson: if one dishonors the commandments of God, one dishonors mother, and if one dishonors mother, one dishonors the commandments of God. 2"
