"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-40

Mile 93.  Another fine walk up the hill in the wind, this time a little quicker, so Tortoise was able to go down the hill as far as the middle school before climbing back up on his return trip.  Lou was accompanied by a  walking thought ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.02 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 210 feet in the 1.51 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 488 calories in 47:50 minutes, a pace of 15:50 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

93.14 miles walked which is 13.64% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 73.96 total miles.

25:10:21 hours walked which is 12.03% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

7,461 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 6,664. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 minutes, rather than an hour daily.

15,000 calories burned.

10.83% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 235 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 338 of the 347 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.41% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Throughout time the people of God have been commanded to care for all individuals who are strangers or who may be seen as different.  In ancient times a stranger benefited from the same obligation of hospitality as a widow or an orphan.  Like them, the stranger was in a situation of great vulnerability, and his survival depended on the protection he received from the local population.  The people of Israel received precise instructions on this subject:  'But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.' (Leviticus 19:34)

"During His earthly ministry, Jesus was an example of one who went far beyond the simple obligation of hospitality and tolerance.  Those who were excluded from society, those who were rejected and considered to be impure by the self-righteous, were given His compassion and respect.  They received an equal part of His teachings and ministry."
