"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-41

Mile 96.  This evening was warmer at 61 degrees, blessing Tortoise with the opportunity to take his walk up the hill in his long sleeved shirt.  It was nice enough that Lou picked up the pace slightly, enabling him to add a loop as far as Hurricane's Main Street before turning back.  His office neighbor Paparazzi has recently returned its night lights to its traditional pink from the holiday red used the past two months, so that is your picture for this evening.  Walking thought was by Randy Funk ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.31 miles and had a 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 219 feet in the 1.66 mile uphill portion.  It was Lou's fifth 5k walk of 2016.  Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 568 calories in 49:42 minutes, a pace of 15:01 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

96.45 miles walked which is 14.12% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 76.13 total miles.

26:00:03 hours walked which is 12.42% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

7,680 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 6,860. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 minutes, rather than an hour daily.

15,568 calories burned.

11.15% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 236 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 339 of the 348 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.41% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"The Lord instructs His servants to be humble because the process of being made whole spiritually begins with a broken heart.  Think of the good that comes from broken things:  Soil is broken to plant wheat.  Wheat is broken to make bread.  Bread is broken to become the emblems of the sacrament.  When one who is repentant partakes of the sacrament with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, he or she becomes whole.  As we repent and become whole through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we have much more to offer the Savior as we serve Him. 'Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him.' (Omni 1:26)"

-- Randy D. Funk, "Called of Him to Declare His Word", October 2013 LDS General Conference
