"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-51

Mile 126.  Tortoise paid his respects at a friend's small private funeral in St. George this morning, after which he did a quick up, down, and back up Foremaster Ridge before heading back to you know where.  He got some nice pictures while listening to Thomas Monson's walking thought ...

Cheerio!

Up, up, and away right from the start

These next 2 views are at the day's turnaround point.

The hospital campus dominates the view in this direction as Lou
starts his final stretch down

Back to his waiting black car at the right of the parking lot ahead ...

Nice heart-pumping grades of up to 7% on this one.
Today's walk was 2.74 miles and had a 3.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 339 feet in the 1.37 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 2708.  This walk burned 443 calories in 43:58 minutes, a pace of 16:03 minutes per mile, not bad at all for that amount of climbing.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

126.12 miles walked which is 18.47% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 95.71 total miles.

34:09:53 hours walked which is 16.32% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

9,833 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 8,624. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 46:35 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

20,263 calories burned.

14.01% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 245 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 348 of the 357 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.48% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

Tortoise has a special request for Wounded Duck:  Please share a comment on this post with a summary of your week with Terreeeblay North for his inspiration for the coming week ...  Thank you!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"When the pathway of life takes a cruel turn, there is the temptation to ask the question 'Why me?'  At times there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel, no sunrise to end the night's darkness.  We feel encompassed by the disappointment of shattered dreams and the despair of vanished hopes.  We join in uttering the biblical plea, 'Is there no balm in Gilead?'  We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone.  We are inclined to view our own personal misfortunes through the distorted prism of pessimism.  We become impatient for a solution to our problems, forgetting that frequently the heavenly virtue of patience is required.

"The difficulties which come to us present us with the real test of our ability to endure.  A fundamental question remains to be answered by each of us:  Shall I falter, or shall I finish?  Some do falter as they find themselves unable to rise above their challenges.  To finish involves enduring to the very end of life itself."

The tortoise is smiling!
