"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-53

Mile 129.  By the light of the silvery moon ... OK, Tortoise just showed his age, but he did enjoy walking in the bright moon light tonight.  Even if he did bundle up because of the wind.  This evening's walking thought is by Quentin Cook ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.23 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 231 feet in the 1.62 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 519 calories in 51:16 minutes, a pace of 15:52 minutes per mile.   It was Lou's twelfth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

129.35 miles walked which is 18.94% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 97,88 total miles.

35:01:09 hours walked which is 16.73% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

10,064 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 8,820. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 46:42 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

20,782 calories burned.

14.33% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 246 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 349 of the 358 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.49% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"How we preserve time for family is one of the most significant issues we face in most cultures.  ... one woman lawyer explained to me how she always felt like a juggler trying to keep three balls in the air at the same time. .One ball was her law practice, one was her marriage, and one was her children.  She had almost given up on time for herself.  She was greatly concerned that one of the balls was always on the ground.  I suggested we meet as a group and discuss our priorities.  We determined that the primary reason we were working was to support our famiilies.  We agreed that making more money wasn't nearly as important as our families, but we recognized that serving our clients to the best of our abilities was essential.  The discussion then moved to what we did at work that was not necessary and was inconsistent with leaving time for family.  Was there pressure to spend time in the workplace that was not essential?  We decided that our goal would be a family-friendly environment for both women and men.  Let us be at the forefront in protecting time for family."

The tortoise is smiling!
