"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-55

Mile 135.  It got a little warmer today, allowing Tortoise to resume walking in shirtsleeves at 60 degree, beginning with this beautiful sunset about 6:40 pm.  Lou did the loop using 460 North and Main Street to turnaround from this otherwise standard walk up the hill.  Walking thought was by David McConkie ...

Cheerio!

A morning view of early springtime in La Verkin.  Not part of this walk,
but Lou wanted to share with you anyway.

The 4th floor of the new Wingate Inn is in progress.

Today's walk was 3.27 miles and had a 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 197 feet in the 1.64 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 523 calories in 52:51 minutes, a pace of 16:10 minutes per mile.   It was Lou's fourteenth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

135.98 miles walked which is 19.91% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 102.23 total miles.

36:49:32 hours walked which is 17.59% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

10,479 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 9,212. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 or so minutes, rather than an hour daily.  (So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 47:01 minutes each, compared with 1:07:04 hours each in 2015)

21,826 calories burned.

14.97% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 248 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 351 of the 360 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.50% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Finally, you must stand as an independent witness of the things you teach and not just be an echo of the words in a manual or the thoughts of others.  As you feast upon the words of Christ and strive to live the gospel with greater purpose than ever before, the Holy Ghost will manifest unto you that the things you are teaching are true."

The tortoise is smiling!
