"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-88

Mile 227.  Lou was in St. George during the 5 to 6 hour today.  He was considering walking the Cottonwood Wash Trail in Washington on his way home, until the weather started turning nasty with heavy winds mixed with intermittent rain.  He parked his car where he found himself, bundled up, and walked up the Foremaster hill.  Not wanting to get further than about a half mile from his car ... just in case ... he then retraced his steps, after which, with only minor modifications, he did it again two more times.  The walking thought was by Neil Andersen ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.38 miles and had a 3.5 tortoise rating earned by climbing 480 feet in the 1.69 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 2708.  This walk burned 499 calories in 60:01 minutes, a pace of 17:45 minutes per mile. It was Lou's thirty-fifth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

227.36 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 238.85 miles.

16,684 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 14,700. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 49:46 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:25 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 276 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 379 of the 388 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.68% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"I like the story of Andrew, who asked, 'Master, where dwellest thou?'  Jesus could have responded with the location of where he lived.  But instead he said to Andrew, 'Come and see.'  I like to think that the Savior was saying, 'Come and see not only where I live but how I live.  Come and see who I am.  Come and feel the Spirit.' We don't know everything about that day, but we do know that when Andrew found his brother Simon, he declared, 'We have found ... the Christ'."

The tortoise is smiling!
