Mile 306. Lou was invited to one of the more unique church sponsored community social events he has encountered -- the Rocket Car Derby! Shown above is Starfleet 2161 Bob's speedster racing past the swift red machine. There's more pictures, even a few video clips here ... but don't blink or they'll be gone!
The walk today was to the Derby and back ... of course it was by way of a magical mystery path ... what else would you expect from Tortoise? Walking thought was by Stephen Owen ...
Cheerio!

The sleek competitors are lined up before the races begin. By the way, that fellow's shirt looks like an interesting alternative to Lou's mythical bat ... |

Strong, thin wires keep the rocket cars on track, if they don't blow up en route :-) |

Getting ready for each run is clearly serious business |

Almost home now, thought you out-of-town readers might enjoy the latest view of these two homes being built down the street. |
Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:
306.70 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 312.10 miles.
21,844 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 19,208. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015. So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 51:20 minutes each.
His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:24 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.
Lou has walked 299 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 402 of the 411 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.81% consistency rating.
One step at a time can lead to great things!
And now for today's walking thought ...
"But what if I were to ask you, 'Who is the greatest follower who ever lived?' -- wouldn't the answer again be Jesus Christ? He is the greatest leader because He is the greatest follower -- He follows His Father perfectly, in all things.
"The world teaches that leaders must be mighty; the Lord teaches that they must be meek. Worldly leaders gain power and influence through their talent, skill, and wealth. Christlike leaders gain power and influence 'by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned.'
"In God's eyes, the greatest leaders have always been the greatest followers."
The tortoise is smiling!
