"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-117

Mile 313.  Lots more rain today.  Then as evening approached, the clearing storm clouds made for beautiful walking weather for Tortoise to head up the hill from his office.  The walking thought was by Henry Eyring ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.27 miles, done in 48:40 minutes at an average pace of 14:53 minutes per mile.  This route had an average 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 219 feet in the 1.64 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 583 calories.  It was Lou's fifty-seventh 5k walk of the year.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

313.54 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 318.47 miles.

22,272 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 19,600. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 51:22 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:23 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 301 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 404 of the 413 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.82% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Now, there are some husbands and fathers listening tonight.  What can you do? ...

"You will treat your wife and children the way Heavenly Father has treated you.  You will follow the example and direction of the Savior to lead your family in His way.

"No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

"By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul hypocrisy, and without guile."

The tortoise is smiling!
