"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-119

Mile 319.  So thankful for all this rain.  It's just wonderful!  Tortoise was able to quickly get in a shortened walk this evening without getting too wet, accompanied by another of Thomas Monson's high quality stories ...

Cheerio!

Can't see the mountains for the clouds, even in this short sunny break.

Today's walk was 2.43 miles, done in 45:23 minutes at an average pace of 18:41 minutes per mile.  This route had an average 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 167 feet in the 1.22 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3252.  This walk burned 365 calories.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

319.23 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 324.84 miles.

22,666 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 19,992. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 51:22 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:25 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 303 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 406 of the 415 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.83% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"During World War II, a friend of mine was serving in the South Pacific when his plane was shot down over the ocean.  He and other crew members successfully parachuted from the burning plane, inflated their life rafts, and clung to those rafts for three days.

"On the third day they spotted what they knew to be a rescue vessel.  It passed them by.  The next morning it passed them by again.  They began to despair as they realized that this was the last day the rescue vessel would be in the area.

"Then the Holy Spirit spoke to my friend: 'You have the priesthood.  Command the rescuers to pick you up.'

"He did as prompted: 'In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the priesthood, turn about and pick us up.'

"Within a few minutes the vessel was beside them, helping them on deck.  A faithful and worthy bearer of the priesthood, in his extremity, had exercised that priesthood, blessing his life and the lives of others.

"May we determine, here and now, ever to be prepared for our time of need, our time of service, our time of blessing."

In Lou's mind, this is every bit as remarkable as the Savior walking on the water.

The Tortoise is smiling!
