"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-120

Mile 321.  Tortoise had a glorious evening with Becca!  We started our evening at the Vernal LDS Temple, then we went to a restaurant neither of us had been to before on the recommendation of Becca's "native of Vernal" friend, and wrapped things up with a walk on well lit, flat, and basically quiet streets near the temple (except for a particularly pesky dog who kept trying to jump a fence to get to us).  The restaurant was great, flavorful, but not overpowering, and gentle on Tortoise's stomach.  He appreciates this in his post-radiation life.  The decor and service were delightful as well. (Not to mention the company.)  On accompanied walks, Lou listens to his thought in advance in his car -- this evening it was by Thomas Monson ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.07 miles, done in 47:23 minutes at an average pace of 22:53 minutes per mile.  This route had an average 5.1 tortoise rating earned by climbing 37 feet in the 1.04 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 5360.  This walk burned 333 calories.

This was Lou's first walk in Uintah County, Utah, which ties Utah with California for the state with the most counties Tortoise has walked in.  (He has now walked in 11 of Utah's 29 counties and in 11 of California's 58 counties.)

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

321.30 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 328.03 miles.

22,703 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 20,188. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 51:20 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:27 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 304 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 407 of the 416 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.84% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"I have been thinking recently about choices.  It has been said that the door of history turns on small hinges, and so do people's lives.  The choices we make determine our destiny."

The Tortoise is smiling!
