"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Did a 20:15 minute walk around 6:30 this evening, under partly cloudy, moonlit skies, 63 degrees and no wind.  Made it 1.12 miles in that time, climbing 102 feet, with a tortoise rating of 4.3 on the uphill half of the walk.  HumanaFit rates it category 5.

A few of the houses just built in the new Ivy Wood subdivision near the tortoise's office
Snuck in a short walk after work and before evening meetings ... 1.12 miles with 56 feet climbed in 21:35 minutes.  Cloudy, no wind, 66 degrees.  Better enjoy it, guess this is the last warm day before a steady decline over the next week.  It is November after all.  Tortoise rating:  5.1 on the uphill half of the walk.

Found some exciting P.I.E. along my walk today
Helped Bruce at Valley Academy this afternoon.  It was another spectacular 72 degree sunny, blue sky, fall day with no wind, so I walked there and back.  The walk was 1.35 miles round trip, with 105 feet climbed, in 1:10:45 hours ... because I stopped for 39 minutes along the way back to talk with Matt Excell and his daughter in their yard.  One of the bonuses of walking instead of driving.  You actually talk to people along the way.  Subjects varied all over, but Veterans Day and related issues (including a spirited discussion of the Vietnam War) was an important portion.  After we got the tax issues out of the way, of course.  Tortoise rating on the uphill half:  4.6.  HumanaFit rates it category 5.

Visited a friend this afternoon, Colin Nilsson, recovering in the hospital after heart surgery to repair a leak.  My walk today consisted of going from where I parked to his room and back.  I only tried measuring the outside portion, one way, then doubled that, so the actual walk is just slightly longer than the tiny amount I calculated:  0.36 miles with 23 feet climbed in 7:24 minutes.  Sunny, calm, beautiful 67 degree weather at about 2:30 this afternoon.  Tortoise rating:  5.6.

Drove home from Bountiful and Aunt Dot's birthday party mid-afternoon, did a minimum walk I'm guessing was 0.5 miles walked with 20 feet of stairs climbed in 10 minutes, while enjoying birthday cake, ice cream, and other tasty treats.  Please click below if you'd like to continue reading more details of that ...

Walked half the access road to the Gould's Rim Trail, part of the Hurricane Cliffs Trail System after work today.  2.03 miles with 187 feet climbed, mostly on the return half of the walk, in 37:02 minutes.  Another picture postcard afternoon, sunny, calm, blue skies, and mid 60s, that we'd better enjoy while we can.  Tortoise rating:  4.1.

Tonight was one of my more unique walks.  Lots of folks coming to vote after dark thought the polls were already closed, because the light by the door is motion sensitive ... so it stayed off too much of the time.  So ... I volunteered to walk back and forth under the light to keep it on.  I don't know how far I went, but it took 30 minutes so even at 2.5 miles per hour (probably about right including stops to greet people and open the door for them) I covered 1.25 miles by walking 20 feet back and forth and back and forth and ...  I had a great time, and voting did increase during that half hour.  :-)
