"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

3-61

A view from the trail marker a half mile up the La Verkin Overlook Trail
I walked 1.01 miles and climbed 292 feet in 31 minutes this morning. Didn't have a lot of time, but I wanted to do some climbing, so I went as far as I could up the La Verkin Overlook Trail in 17 minutes, then retraced my steps. It was my second category 3 climb (Tortoise Rating: 0.6), and first since June 9.

Here are more pictures and a map of the walk with details of the day:
The Virgin River has almost dried up

The dry hill I just climbed in contrast with the irrigated trees and fields below.  The black dot by the white fence is my car parked just far enough from the trailhead to not be near any vegetation that could easily catch fire at any time.

The trail marker at 0.50 miles and the view below along La Verkin's Main Street

Totals of my category 3 climbs is 4.54 miles with 876 feet climbed in 1 hour 56 minutes. Chapter 3 totals are 62.21 miles walked in 24 hours 37 minutes, with 3,330 feet climbed, and 11 swims totalling 4,240 meters in 4 hour 34 minutes.

My weekly weigh-in was this morning:  257.1, down 0.3 pounds over the past week, and 12.7 pounds total for chapter 3 -- my recommitment since May 1.  I'm happy for any progress at all for a birthday week :-)

I read Alma 8-10 today and as I often do, found it reminded me a great deal of what I see in the world daily ...

  1. Dad the total Awes! Congrats on finishing up your second category 3 climb...more impressive than anything is the fact that you couldn't find anyone to go with you, yet you still got out there to not only walk, but push yourself!! To boot, you also clocked in another week with some weight loss, and you certainly deserve to feel proud about that!

Sorry to see your pictures, and see just how dry our area is right now...here's to hoping that the Lord blesses us with rain soon before more devastation rains down on us first.

Thank you for sharing, as always, you are definitely an inspiration! Slow and steady wins the race...love!!
