And his attempts to find variety in his walks, avoid Terreeeblay the treadmill, keep his doctor happy and himself alive and vibrant!
"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"
until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise
P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

An exploration walk! I'm working on finding the path for the LaVerkin Scenic Circle Trail. Today's portion was finding a second approach to the Overlook. Click here for a map, stats, simulated video, pictures, and other fun details!
Leaving the unfinished subdivision and headed on a dirt road in between two lots
Beautiful sunrise
The path starts winding up from the highway, shown in the next picture
I wasn't thinking this was a very well maintained trail, but apparently horses are able to use it
Looking back at a trail junction. I came from the path to the left in this picture.
The path I followed merged with the Overlook Road. I'm going to look for another path
that parallels the road and stays closer to the ridge.
A nice view back to the Pine Valley Mountains in the distance
Starting back down using the Overlook Trail
Delicate purple flowers near the bottom of the Overlook Trail
The walk was 5.25 miles, with 607 feet climbed, in 2 hours 18 minutes, beginning and ending at La Verkin's Wanlass Park. The grade averaged 5.5% while climbing. This brings my chapter 3 totals to 114.69 miles walked in 45 hours 31 minutes, with 7,443 feet climbed, and 14 swims totalling 4,640 meters in 4 hour 57 minutes. This was my fourth HumanaFit category 3 climb (Tortoise rating: 3.3), and first since August 10. Totals of my category 3 climbs is 12.30 miles with 2,159 feet climbed in 5 hours 36 minutes. Eating, with net calories today after deducting exercise:
Today's last word, taken from reading in Alma 54-56 and Zephaniah 1 ...
"Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the aliberty of their bfathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their cmothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them.
"And they rehearsed unto me the words of their amothers, saying: We bdo not doubt our mothers knew it." -- Alma 56:47-48
"The agreat day of the Lordis near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
"Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the afire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land." -- Zephaniah 1:14,18
i love the hike to the overlook, I think I would be nervous with an alternate route, because I'm always thinking some sort of wild life will attack me, for real, but I'd love to do this hike with you next time I'm home :)
Well ... I am working on it, at my usual tortoise pace. LaVerkin just got approval for a National Scenic Highway grant to pay 80% of the cost of a park at the "crescent" at the highway junction across from Maverik. I worked on that with the city beautification committee for several years, wondered if we could ever make it happen. There will be an information kiosk there ... and I hope this trail will pass right through and be included in the description! We also got a $1000 grant from Maverik to help with the local portion of the cost, and are talking to other businesses there to help too. One step at a time ...
Sounds awes dad! You had told me about the grant, and I think you told me the local portion that needs to be raised is $12,000. Here's to hoping that other businesses will step up like Maverik and make it a reality! Kiosk at the park sounds awes...didn't know about that. Though I did see that La Verkin now has a Parks & Recreation head....hitting the big time!!
