"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-192

Mile 549.  Tortoise enjoyed this beautiful early morning view after walking to the top of La Verkin's Center Street on Wednesday, July 8.  For more pictures and other details from this walk and the rest of the week, along with links to six March walks that he has posted recently, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

There were walks on all six days this week, totalling 20.6 miles:

Monday, July 6, 2.08 miles on a LaVerkin loop up the Center Street hill then on to 200 North Street and back in 36:52 minutes.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, July 7, 8, and 10 was on the 4.15 mile loop pictured below in 1:16:26, 1:16:03, and 1:10:45 hours, respectively.  It included a couple nice little hills:

Thursday, July 9 was on a similar loop as Monday, with one small change pictured below.  It was 2.14 miles in 35:35 minutes:

On Friday, Tortoise worked in a second walk over to talk with the owner of Dairy Queen after having done the walk described earlier.  This was a 0.76 mile round trip in 14:57 minutes.

To wrap up the week, Tortoise walked a 3.19 mile loop from his office in 52:07 minutes, as pictured below:

Tortoise ratings Monday through Saturday (including Friday's second walk) were 5.2, 5.3, 5.3, 5.1, 5.3, 5.2, 5.5.  Calories burned on these same walks were 306, 613, 612, 326, 614, 113, and 492.

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

549.96 miles walked, which is 54.89% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 543.38 year-to-date miles.

168:28:22 hours walked, which is 53.83% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

26,293 total feet climbed, compared with 24,960 feet on this day in 2014.

82,487 calories burned

52.72% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 53 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 156 of the 165 non-Sundays in 2015, a 94.55% consistency rating.  This compares with 154 days walked after 165 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 93.33% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record before setting his 1,000 mile yearly goals (and that little extra) in the years since then ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

Tortoise is pleased to announce the following new posts since last week to fill the gaps in his blog from earlier this year:  Please click on the underlined links for pictures and more:

Monday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 3 on the San Gabriel River Trail in El Monte, CA.

Wednesday, March 4 on the Marvin Braude Trail along the beach near the Los Angeles airport early before catching a morning flight home.

Thursday, March 5 taking a long way home from work, then visiting the Special Needs Mutual talent show, followed by a walk back to work on Friday, March 6.

Wrapped up on Saturday, March 7 by a walk through Confluence Park with four of Tortoise's favorite people followed by a trip to Dixie State with even more of his favorite people to see Jacob on stage in "Man of La Mancha".

The tortoise is smiling!
