Mile 576. If there was any doubt that Tortoise is slow (but hopefully steady), we have this week as Exhibit A. Tortoise walked a "marathon, and a little extra, and those 26.4 miles "only" took six days! If you prefer to measure it use the time walked during those six days, that would be 8 hours 38 minutes 48 seconds. Were that a real marathon, Tortoise would have been escorted off the course hours before finishing. As it was, he enjoyed a vigorous week of walks, highlighted by Wednesday's walk on the Prospector Trail in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve pictured above.

Cheerio!
Bright sunny Monday morning in La Verkin |
Lots of ups and downs on the Prospector Trail Wednesday afternoon as shown below: |
Trail junction with Bracken's Loop. Zion's landmark West Temple is in the distance. |
Coral Canyon's water tank looks over this trail, as does the guard rail of I-15. |
The east junction with Church Rocks trail. |
Thursday walking in La Verkin |
Walked Friday to "the old white church" to help my neighbors the Fraziers celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary |
Saturday took Tortoise on a walk through La Verkin to the Confluence Park trailhead, with the return trip home along the Confluence Trail with beautiful river views |
There were walks on all six days this week, totalling 20.6 miles:
Tortoise ratings Monday through Saturday were 5.3, 5.3, 4.6, 4.9, 5.1, and 4.0. Calories burned on these same walks were 618, 619, 689, 687, 695, and 662.
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
576.42 miles walked, which is 57.53% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 565.23 year-to-date miles.
177:07:10 hours walked, which is 56.59% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
27,590 total feet climbed, compared with 25,764 feet on this day in 2014.
86,457 calories burned
54.63% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 59 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 162 of the 171 non-Sundays in 2015, a 94.74% consistency rating. This compares with 160 days walked after 171 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 93.57% consistency rating).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record before setting his 1,000 mile yearly goals (and that little extra) in the years since then ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent. He hopes you find what works for you)
The tortoise is smiling!
